Privacy and cookies
This page explains what this website collects about you, why, how long it is kept and what you can ask me to do with it.
Who is responsible
I am Roberto Ferraro, and I run robertoferraro.net myself. I am the data controller for everything described here. The quickest way to reach me about your data is the contact form.
Visit statistics, only if you agree
When you first visit, a bar at the bottom of the page asks whether I may count your visits. Until you press Accept, nothing about your visit is recorded, no statistics code is loaded and nothing is requested from Google. If you press Reject, nothing is recorded either, and the site works the same.
If you accept, I record on my own server:
- which pages you open and which links you follow on them;
- the website you came from (its name only, never the full address);
- your type of device (phone, tablet or computer) and its operating system family;
- your country, worked out by my hosting provider from your connection;
- your IP address;
- a random visitor number kept in a cookie, so that I can tell a returning visitor from a new one.
If you accept, the site also loads Google Analytics 4 from Google, on robertoferraro.net only. Google Analytics counts page views with a random identifier kept in cookies, and Google receives your IP address and your browser and device details with each request. I have turned off Google's advertising features (Google signals and ad personalisation), and I do not use any of this for advertising.
I use all this to understand which pages people read and how they find the site, so I can improve it. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. I do not sell these records.
How long: on my own server, your IP address is deleted after 30 days; the country worked out from it stays. The rest of the record is deleted after 12 months. Google Analytics keeps its data for the period set in my Google Analytics account, 14 months at most.
Messages you send me
When you send one of the site's forms (contact, feedback, waitlist or archive demo), I keep what you wrote in it, including your name and email address, and the time you sent it. I use it to answer you, and the legal basis is your request. To stop spam, the form also keeps a code made from your IP address, which cannot be turned back into the address. Form messages are kept for 24 months and then deleted.
Cookies
- consent: remembers whether you accepted or rejected the statistics, for 6 months; then the bar asks again. It is needed for the bar to work.
- uv: the random visitor number, set only after you accept, for 13 months. It is deleted when you reject or withdraw.
- _ga and _ga_FMMKR6BBD0: Google Analytics's random visitor number and session state, set only after you accept, for up to 2 years. They are deleted when you reject or withdraw.
- form_opened: set when you open a form page, for at most 4 hours, and sent only with the form. It measures how long the form was open, to tell people from spam scripts. It is needed for the forms to work.
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
Who processes the data
The site, its statistics and its form messages are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., which processes the data on my behalf. Form messages are also delivered to me by email and by Telegram.
If you accept, Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited, and by Google LLC in the United States, which process the data on my behalf under Google's data processing terms; transfers to the United States rely on the safeguards those terms describe.
Your rights
You can ask me for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it, by writing to me through the contact form. For statistics, tell me roughly when you visited; the records hold no name, so I may ask for your visitor number, which you can find in your browser's cookies for this site.
If you think I have not handled your data properly, you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).
